The Windows Desktop / Parts of a Window

Subtitles of the Movie

In this video we'll discuss the parts of a window in Windows Vista. The parts of a window when manipulating a windows size hasn't changed in Windows Vista. I have the Documents folder open here in Windows Explorer. The upper right hand corner of the window contains from left to right: Minimize, Maximize and Close buttons. The Minimize button closes the window but you can open it again by clicking the Window button in the toolbar. In this example I've minimized the Documents Folder window but I can open it again by clicking the Documents button in the toolbar. The Maximize button fills the entire screen with the window. You can make the window smaller by clicking the Maximize button again. If the window is smaller than the screen size you can also resize the window by moving the cursor to the edge of the window. The mouse pointer changes to a double-sided arrow. If you move the mouse pointer to the left or right edge, hold down the left mouse button and drag the window, you can change the window width. If you move the mouse pointer to the top, bottom edge and drag the window you can change the window length. If you move the mouse pointer to the corner of the window and drag the window you can change the window width and length simultaneously. Click the red Close button to close the window. When you close the window the window button disappears from the taskbar and you will have to restart the program to open the window again. Program files such a Microsoft Word have the title of the document to the left side of the title bar. Program files usually have an icon to the left of the title that let you perform window actions when upi click the icon. For example, in Word you can move, size, minimize, maximize and close the window. Note that if you find these changes too dramatic you can change the windows theme to Windows Classic. Here's how. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel. Click the Appearance and Personalization link. Under the Personalization header, click the Change the Theme link. Select the Windows Classic theme from the Theme list. Click the OK button if you want to apply the new theme, otherwise click the Cancel button.
