The Windows Desktop / Using Gadgets

Subtitles of the Movie

In this video we'll talk about using sidebar gadgets. The Windows sidebar contains gadgets that are small applications that fit in the sidebar. Three gadgets appear by default: an analog clock that displays the current time; a slideshow of pictures from the Windows picture gallery. The picture changes every 15 seconds; headlines from the web though you have to set up this feature to scour the websites you frequent that have RSS or Really Simple Syndication feeds so you can get the latest news on your desktop. You can add gadgets by clicking the Plus button at the top of the sidebar. The Gadgets window appears. Windows Vista comes with 11 gadgets from calendar to the local weather. If you want to see more information about a gadget, click on the gadget in the Gadgets window and then click the Show Details button. The window expands and displays information about the gadget. Add a gadget by double clicking on the gadget in the Gadget window. The gadget appears at the top of the sidebar. You can move a gadget up and down the sidebar by holding down the Left Mouse button and dragging the gadget up and down. You can also get more gadgets online by clicking the Get more gadgets online link. When you click this link the Internet Explorer 7 window opens and the Vista Gadgets website appears so you can download any of the dozens of gadgets available. For now, I'll close the Internet Explorer window to return to the Gadget window. When you download a gadget it appears in the Gadgets window. If the gadget you added doesn't appear in the window the gadget is probably on the next page. Click the Right arrow button to go to the next page of gadgets. Close the gadgets window by clicking the Close button in the window.
