The Windows Desktop / Icons

Subtitles of the Movie

In this video we'll talk about the different types of icons in Windows Vista and what happens when you open different types of icons. As with all other graphical user interfaces in past versions of Windows, Windows Vista uses icons to represent files, folders and applications that you can access. When you double click on the icon Vista takes specific action depending on what the icon represents. Once more, the icon is different depending on the file, folder or application represented by the icon. For example, on the desktop you see the Recycle Bin icon is different from the icon about how to send feedback about Windows Vista. The icon size is medium by default. You can change the size of the icons by right clicking on a blank area of the desktop, then move the mouse pointer over View in the menu and then select large icons or classic icons which is the smallest icon. You can view icons not only in the desktop but also in the Start menu, Windows Explorer and in the taskbar. Click the Start button to open the Start menu. You see the different types of icons represented by various programs such as Windows Explorer, Windows Media Player and Camtasia Studio. Click the Windows Explorer link in the Start menu to open Windows Explorer. You can see in My Documents folder that there is one folder and numerous files. Each folder contains the folder icon, which is an open manila folder next to the folder name. Underneath the folder are a number of files that will record by Camtasia Studio. If you're unsure about what the icons represent the type of file is listed in the Type column. If you click on a file icon, the program associated with that file opens automatically, and then the program opens that file. If you open a folder from the desktop the Windows Explorer window opens and displays the contents of the folder. Close the Windows Explorer window. You can also get more information about the file, folder or program represented by the icon by right clicking on it. The Pop-up menu not only lets you access properties but also lets you perform actions such a copying or renaming the file. You can close the menu by clicking on a blank area anywhere in the desktop.
