In this video you will choose the Windows Vista desktop background. After you install Windows Vista the operating system places the default background wallpaper on the desktop when you run Vista for the first time. In this video I'm using the VTC wallpaper and you can change your desktop wallpaper to whatever you wish in the Personalization window. Here's how. Open the Personalization window as you did in the Access the Personalization Window video earlier in this chapter. Click the Desktop Background link. The Desktop Background page appears. The page shows the current Windows wallpaper and the currently selected wallpaper has a box around it. You can scroll up and down the wallpaper's box to see thumbnails of all the wallpapers in different categories from black and white to wide screen. When you click on a wallpaper thumbnail the desktop wallpaper automatically changes so you can see what the wallpaper looks like. If you don't like the default Windows wallpaper click the Picture Location button. You can select from a list of pictures or colors to use for your desktop background. For example, if you click Sample Pictures you see thumbnails of sample pictures loaded with Windows Vista by default. If you don't see a picture you want to use as your wallpaper click the Browse button. The Browse window opens so you can navigate to the folder that contains your wallpaper. You can then click on the picture you want to use and then click the Open button. For now, click the Cancel button. At the bottom of the Desktop Background page there are three wallpaper positioning options from left to right. The option on the left stretches the wallpaper to fit the screen and this is selected by default. Stretching a photo can result in wallpaper that's out of proportion. The middle option tiles the wallpaper across and down the screen. The option on the right centers the wallpaper and leaves the remaining desktop space in black. Return to your previous Windows wallpaper by clicking the Cancel button.
