In this video we'll discuss installing drivers and optional Windows updates. By default Windows Vista checks for updates for Windows only. However, you can check for optional Windows updates as well as update for other programs. Vista not only checks for updated software but also for updated device drivers to ensure that Vista on your external devices like your printer keep communicating clearly. If you want to check for updates, here's how. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel. Click the System and Maintenance link. In the System and Maintenance window click the Windows Update link. The Windows Update window appears and you can check for updates by clicking the Check for updates link. Window Vista checks for updates on the Microsoft website. If Windows Update finds any updates, the window displays the updates available and you can click the Install Updates button to install the updates. Windows Update did not find any updates for my computer or for Windows Vista. If you want to see the updates that Windows Vista wants to install click the View Available updates link. If you want to check for new device drivers for a hardware product close the Windows Update window and follow these steps. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel. Click the System and Maintenance link. Scroll down to the bottom of the System and Maintenance window. Under the device manager header, click the Update device drivers link. Click the Continue button to open the Device Manager window. Click the Plus button to the left of the device category name. The device or devices appears underneath the category name in the tree. Right click on the device name and then click Update Driver Software in the menu. Click the Search automatically for updated driver software link. If the driver is up to date, Windows Vista will tell you. But if there is a new driver, Windows will ask you install it. Since my Bluetooth Enumerator driver is up to date I'll click the Close button.
