In this video you'll learn about removing hardware in Windows Vista. If you want Windows Vista to recognize that you've removed a piece of hardware, turn the computer off, remove the hardware device, and then restart the computer. Vista will recognize that the hardware is no longer installed. If you have a removable hardware device installed such as an USB Flash drive, Vista will immediately recognize the device has been removed after you detach the device. You can also disable or uninstall hardware from within the device manager. Here's how. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel. Click the System and Maintenance link. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and then click the Device Manager link. Click the Continue button to open the Device Manager window. The devices are listed by category in the Device Manager Tree. View devices in a specific category by clicking the Plus button to the left of the category name. The devices appear under the category name. Right click on the device and then click disable in the menu. Click the Yes button to disable the device. The Device Manager List refreshes. If you want to confirm that the device is disabled double click the device name to open the Device Properties window. If you want to enable the device again click the Enable Device button. In the Troubleshooting Wizard window click the Next button. The device is enabled once again, so click the Finish button, and then click close in the Properties window. You can also uninstall the device by right clicking on the device in the Device Manager window and then clicking Uninstall in the menu. The Confirmed Device Uninstall dialog box asks you to confirm un-installation by clicking the Ok button. I'd rather not uninstall the device right now so I'll click the Cancel button.
