As we said making a connection to remote desktop is simple, once all the permissions are in place. So in this example what we are going to do is make a connection to remote desktop. And then once we get there we are going to take a look at permissions that allowed us to get there in the first place. So to make the connection to the remote desktop we are going to first click on start, and then we are going to click on all programs then accessories and then communications and finally remote desktop connection. Once we use this it will pen to the start menu in Windows Server 2003. Also once we are connected to remote desktop the ones that we have connected to in the past will show up. And we can use our drop down arrow to just select those. But say for example I have never connected to Xp client then I would type in Xp client to make that connection and then simply press enter. When I do this system looks at my authorization to connect to Xp client and it says ok, will you need to logon? It says it you are going to logon as Bill Fergusson which is one of the ones that is allowed to connect to this client then logon as Bill Fergusson as if you were logging on locally, which is what I am going to do. I will type in my password as if I am logging on locally to the computer and then click on ok. Now I am logged on to the remote desktop and as we can see Xp client is shown appear at the top. I know that I am logged on to the Xp client. We can see that the colors are quite as brilliant. The display is a little bit different. And we will take a look at some of the options that we have in just a minute. But in order to have got in here in the first place we would have to had the permissions set to be able to connect to this remote desktop. Let us take a look at where those are. If we right click on my computer and then go to my properties then we have a tab which says remote. When we click on the remote tab we can see that the selection to allow users to connect remotely to this computer is selected. And if we take a look at the remote users that are allowed to connect to this computer, we will see Bill Fergusson as one of them and administrator is another one. So these are the only users that are allowed to connect to this computer and as it said Bill Fergusson already has access because Bill Fergusson has the local account. So this is how we can make connection to the remote desktop. Now once we have made the connection to remote desktop we can do just about anything that we would do if we actually logged on to the computer. So for example if we wanted to look at what else is in this computer or we wanted to connect to another computer, we wanted to look at my documents, we wanted to use any of the items on this computer we are on this computer just as if we were locally logged on. We can also manage the computer if we right click on my computer and then click on, manage we can see that we have the capability to manage this computer as if we were logged on locally. We will be talking more about that later on in this training. So the main thing to know here is that the remote desktop connection is allowable as long as permissions is set up to make that connection, and Windows Server 2003 administrators automatically have the ability to go out. It is just the matter of setting the clients so that we can get in or in this case the client may be another server. So setting the other server's properties so that they can be remotely managed as we said that is in the properties and then remote tab. So this is the way that we can make a connection to remote desktop and in our next section, we will take a look at some of the things that we can do once we connect to other computers. That is next.
