Managing Users And Computers / Modifying Computer Properties

Subtitles of the Movie

Just as users have properties computer also have properties. We get to the computer properties in the same way through active directory users and computers by right clicking on the computer. So let us go in active Directories Users and Computers and just right click on our PC2 that we have created and then click on properties. We can see that there are many properties for this particular computer for example on the general properties of the computer name is PC2. We also have the role to workstation or server. We can put in into description. We could select to trust this computer for delegation in other words that means the server is running on the local system, this computer could request the servers from other server. Typically this is a check for security purposes. We can select operating system tab and we could put in information about the operating system. This would just be for asset management. Also for asset management we could fill in a location tab, where that computer is located within our network. We can set up a hierarchy of locations. Click on member r of, we can see that it is a number of domain computers that is the default installation. For security purposes later on we will see that we could actually make it a member of another group and give that group information to do something. Because we can control information and computers just as we can control information for users and depends on the organization, what we are trying to accomplish as to which one we do. We can also determine who can manage this computer, by clicking on managed by and then clicking on change and changing the management of this computer. So we have got many different options that we can choose in regards to computer properties and the other we can choose for computer properties is dial in permissions. Now this dial in permission as we see later on can be set through remote access policies. But we can allow or deny access to dial in or allow or deny this computer to be able to be used for dial, in access right here at the computer properties. We will see later on how all these security option go together. But this is where we modify the properties of the computer. So we have got a lot of different selection that we can choose from. And all of these selections determine what a computer or user can do. But the user or computer has to be enabled in order to be able to do anything. So in our next section we will take a look at enabling accounts and unlocking accounts. That is next.
