Subtitles of the Movie
We said that we would discuss creating organizational units and we will. We will also discuss managing organizational units, including the purpose of OUs, modifying their permissions, delegating administrative authority and distribution of group policy. These are the two main reasons for organizational units and I will spent time discussing each of them. We will also discuss group policy in depth. Managing group policy including group policy objects, creating and linking a GPO, filtering GPOs using blocking inheritance, Enforcing GPO and configuring group policy settings. In addition regarding group policy we will discuss assigning scripts ** or redirection determining an applied GPOs in group policy modeling and results importing **. This last three are done with new tools called the group policy management console which is brand new Server 2003. We will take a look at the GPMC and why it is a better tool than those we had before. Then we will discuss managing security including security templates, deploying a custom security templates, testing security, configuring, auditing and managing security logs. We will also discuss remote administration including configuring a remote desktop, configuring remote desktop connections, creating a share on remote computer, defragmenting a disk remotely, connecting to a remote console session and how to create short cuts for administrative tools. In addition we will discuss monitoring server performance including establishing a baseline so that we know what server is supposed to look like on it is well. Real time monitoring verses large monitoring. Managing counter log and configuring alerts and there are certain resources that every server and every computer uses. We will discuss managing server performance including the process of the disk sub system and the network subsystems of the servers and we will talk about some guidelines and best practices that serve you well both real life as well as for the test. We will also discuss managing the device drivers. Drivers are software that allows the hardware to communicate with the operating systems. We will discuss driver assigning, driver roll back, file signature verification and some best practices with device drivers. In addition we will discuss managing disks including creating volumes, managing mounted volumes, converting disks from basic to dynamic, importing a foreign disks and changing drive letters and some best practices with managing disks. We cannot talk about managing disks without talking about managing data storage. We will discuss file compression, file encryption, disk coders and some best practices with data storage and we need to keep our systems functioning no matter what happens. We will talk about managing disaster recovery including defining disaster recovery - what a disaster is, backing up and restoring data, installing recovery console, backing up systems date data and recovering from a corrupt registry and from a corrupt boot file. We will also discuss keeping our systems up to date with the latest patches using software updates services. Some of the latest attacks have come against computers for which there was a patch available and the attack succeeded because the patch had not got applied. So in Windows Server 2003 there is way to automatically apply these patches. We will discuss what software updates services is how we install and configure it, how we manage, assess infrastructure and then how we can combine software update services and group policy. And last but not the least we will talk about preparation for the 70-290 test. I have passed more than twenty certification tests and I can give you some tips on this particular test as well as some tips on taking any certification tests. We will talk about preparation for this test and then there are some general tips on getting mentally and physically prepared to go take and pass a certification test. But I will like to call up the day of the test. So as you can see we got a lot to talk about. Let us get started with Windows Server 2003 administration. That is next.
