Welcome / Course Overview

Subtitles of the Movie

I guess a good place to start with the course is to give you just a quick overview and let's talk about some things we're going to cover and what you can expect to see about Windows 7 here. Now there's so much to cover about Windows 7, I've broken it down into a just a few major categories so that you can kind of see where you want to go. Now for the most part some parts of this is meant to be in order and I've got those videos designated as part1, part 2 and so forth. Otherwise you may just want to skip around and take whatever is interesting to you. I'll start off talking about installing Windows 7 and with that we'll talk about the different versions of Windows 7, the system requirements, some of your options and then I take you through a four part series of actually installing Windows 7. Now this isn't ground breaking, you know horribly exciting videos, but it does give you a chance to see a Windows 7 installation happen and let you know what to expect. And then we talk about deploying Windows 7, some of the opportunities you have there. A tool called Windows PE, it's not really part of Windows 7 but you need to be aware of, it can be really cool for you. Then we talk about the concept about anytime upgrades and then we jump into the user experience, this is probably going to be most people's favorite part of the video, certainly mine, to play with all the new, cool things that are in Windows 7 and there's some really cool stuff, I think you'll like a lot it. We'll talk about everything from the New Taskbar to Peek,Shake and Snap, some really cool things there. Some Keyboard Shortcuts, calibrating the display, Federated Search which is a really cool idea that you're going to see develop in Windows 7, the device state, Sticky Notes, pinning things to the Taskbar and Start Bar. Some cool things that happen to Calculate and WordPad, wow to get the old quick launch bar back. So lots of things on the user experience and then we jump into files, folders and data and we jump into one of the most interesting probably changes and that is the concept of Libraries in Windows 7 and we'll talk about those, you're going to like them by the way. Then we'll jump into some Windows 7 Networking and we'll talk about the new Home Group that Microsoft has put into Windows 7. It's really kind of cool. We'll talk about DirectAccess, this is a really Star Trek kind of deal, you don't need VPN's anymore and we'll talk about how to pull that off. That's in a Windows 7 environment; you'll get all the details. We'll talk about Remote Access, Remote Assistance which really is the same as before but it's just really cool. Then of course Remote Desktop and then from there we will jump into some Security and Privacy. We'll talk about the New User Account Control, this thing was an absolute nightmare in Vista and they've really cleaned it up a lot and we'll talk about how to manage it and work with it. We'll take look at User Accounts, creating a new user, creating a password, reset disk. We'll talk a little bit about Groups and then Bit Locker and then the coolest thing, the new Bit Locker to go and then I'll give you a quick introduction into the XP Mode functionality of Windows 7. Then we're going to jump from there into Performance and Maintenance and with that we'll talk about again, you're going to hear me say this a lot here, this is the coolest new feature of Windows 7 and I'll say that a couple of hundred times, but Problem Steps Recorder. I don't know why we didn't think of this before. And anyway you'll see that and like it. We'll talk about the Action Center, how we can backup and make an image of our hard disk right out of Windows 7, I'll show you that. RoboCopy, it's a really cool Command Prompt, copying and actually there is a Graphical User Interface. Some new Power Options things in Windows 7 and then we'll kind of close it out talking about some System Repair and Recovery and you'll see some kind of cool things there. So anyway that's where we are headed, going to cover 6 or 7 hours worth of stuff here in Windows 7 and its going to be a real good, kind of get your feet wet, jump in, find out some things about Windows 7 that you can really use and some other things to go investigate and learn more about. So, that's where we are headed so let's get started.
