Now let's take a look at Default Programs. Now this is a functionality that was in Vista but since quite a few people never used Vista that much I want to point this one out because it's excellent and you need to be aware of it. First of all let's go click on the Start Menu and then go to All Programs and then on the list it should be somewhere up near the top, I've got a bunch of Adobe stuff installed here. But if you look you should see Default Programs, click on that and I want you to see some of the things that you can do. Now in a different video I pointed out how you could change the associated file types. For example if you go into the Libraries and if you go to Documents and just right click on a particular Document, say a Word File, you can do Open with, OK? And if you choose a Default Program you will see the various programs and I can change exactly what I want to open this file with, what program I want to open it with, OK? So this is similar to that, you can do the same things but you have a lot more functionalities in one place, OK? First of all I can set my Default Programs and I can determine exactly to set a program as the default for all file types and the protocol it can open, click it and then set as default. Now notice if I set this as Default again, all file types and protocols that it can open is automatically going to use this particular program, same thing for Internet Explorer, OK? We can kind of just go down through the list here, OK? If I don't want to do that, say for example QuickTime. From time to time you may QuickTime to run certain files but you don't want it opening all your video files, so we can choose the Defaults for this program and then notice we can just come down through here and check exactly or uncheck what we wanted to open, OK? And notice you can choose all those, OK? I'll cancel that in case I made any dumb choices there, OK? Then, notice, this is cool, I can change my Auto Play Options. For example when I put in an Audio CD what do I want to do? Play it with Windows Player, Media Player? Open the Folder using Windows Explorer to view the files that are on it? Take no action? And notice it's going to - I can just say ask me every time. So Enhanced Audio CD's you can see all the various things down through here that you can choose. But you can go in one place and you can put these in. Now Devices that I connect to my computer, for example if I plug various USB Devices and so forth, they will see there and I can set those. And then if I fouled it up too bad I can reset all defaults to what Microsoft thinks is a good idea, OK? Then, notice I can set Program Access and Computer Defaults. Now this one is very interesting and this is really good for if you're providing support for a small group of people or if you're helping friends, relatives, all that kind of stuff, yeah I get it to I know exactly how you feel. Notice that this is a program configuration specifies default programs for certain activities and which Programs are accessible from the Start Menu Desktop or the locations. Now this can be huge, notice if I click Microsoft Windows, I can see the various things out there, they'll set programs and so forth, OK? But notice if I go to Custom, I can enable or disable access to certain programs, OK? For example Internet Explorer, if I come down here right now and go to All Programs you will notice here's Internet Explorer. Well if I come back out here and clear this and I don't enable access to Internet Explorer, when I click OK, notice it removed access to Internet Explorer. I don't have access to it anymore and its not in my list, OK? I'm scrolling kind of quickly but I just wanted you to see that Internet Explorer is not out there anymore. So to turn it back on, I can come out here, go to Custom and I can enable access to that again, OK? And then notice I can always shrink and enlarge these and I can click OK, and I turned it back on and you will notice now that I see Internet Explorer back. So, lots of cool things you can do, that's the Default Programs and again that is right out there on your Start Bar, so click on Start, go to All Programs and you will see Default Programs right there.
