This movie is entitled Drive Display Options and I just want to show you a couple of things that can be gotchas on Windows 7 when it comes to dealing with your Disk Drives and this movies falls under that category that I've mentioned in a couple of different movies about all the different cool ways to do things in Windows 7 and so I want to take advantage of this particular movie to show you some cool differences. Now what I want to show you here is a couple of things. First of all if I double-click on My Computer or if I open the Explorer and open the computer link I go to the same place. But I want to show you something really cool and that is, right up here on the Toolbar there is a System Properties, OK? Well if I click on System Properties notice, this takes me to the same place, let me close this as if I had right-clicked on My Computer and clicked on Properties, OK? So notice if I double click on My Computer and go to System Properties, it takes me to the same place, OK? Now if from there if I go to Control Panel Home, notice it'll show me my Control Panel and I can change it from Category to Large Icons or Small Icons, OK? Now I like the Large Icons best of all and you'll notice they are in alphabetical order going across the page and I can see everything here. Alright? Now, if I go into the Folder Options right here, this is some of the things that I want to show you. OK, now in a different movie I showed you a different way to get to this same place, so you can use whichever one you like best and you'll probably find seven or eight more as you work with Windows 7. But I want to show you is first of all, if you click on the View Folder you're going to notice that there is a Option here, right here it is, Hide Empty Drives in the Computer Folder. Now by Default that's going to be checked and that is put there and its made easy for you because a lot of times for future disk space and so forth you may have empty drives in a machine and you don't want to look at them all the time and so that will prevent them from appearing. So if you want to see them you will have to clear that and apply it and then when you go back out you will see those empty folders, OK? Now there is an oddity here that you need to be aware of. Even if I say Hide Empty Folders and then on the General Tab I say show All Folders this apparently is overwriting it, OK? Now in the machine that I'm using right here to record on, it really doesn't matter because as it works out I don't have any empty drives in this machine. So you're not going to see any difference here, OK? So kind of like a used car salesman, you'll just have to trust me here. OK, play with this on your machine. But that is a little oddity that is happening there, OK? So I'm going to go back into Folder Options and now I want to show you one more, OK? There is another Option down here and let me show you this one, show Drive Letters and I can clear this one and click Apply and OK, and then if I go back out you'll notice that it's not showing my Drive Letters, my C and D anymore, OK? And we're kind of moving toward that and a lot of other operating systems don't necessarily show drive letters anymore, but you use the drive names, OK? But that's a whole other deal. I just wanted you to see that it is possible to turn these things off and I didn't want you to be confused if you ever get out there and see that somebody has turned these things off, OK? It's also a great joke to play on somebody, OK? If you're into that kind of stuff about messing with the other Admins, you want to just be careful with that, I don't want to give any of you bad ideas, OK? But that's a couple of things that you're going to see first of all about getting to the Control Panel and about some of these Options on these drives that hiding empty drives will surprise you, OK? Just make sure you understand that is turned On by default and if you have an empty drive out there it will not show here and that can surprise you and fool you sometimes, OK? So just be aware of that, go out and set it and just know that its out there and don't let it confuse you or fool you.
