System Requirements and Installation / Explanation of Solutions and Projects

Subtitles of the Movie

So let's walk through the process of creating solutions and projects using Visual Studio .NET. If you don't already have the program open, click start, programs, Visual Studio .NET, should see a screen something like this come up and go to file and new and blank solution, now notice that it says new project. This is because if you simply go directly to creating a project, automatically a solution will be created for you, down here, shows you the name of the solution, we call it solution oh one, just to demonstrate that We've actually done the naming. Down below that you can see that it shows you the location where your solution file is going to be created, and let's see, documents and settings, administrator, my documents, Visual Studio projects, that's where it is going to be created, as you can see right down here, it will be named solution oh one. It'll actually be a solution file with a .sln on the end of it, so go ahead and click OK. If you go into Windows Explorer however, as I've done here, you can see that inside D drive, maybe on your C drive, for mine it's on my D drive, in the folder documents and settings in the folder administrator, in the folder my documents and inside that in the Visual Studio projects folder you can see that there is a folder named solution oh one and inside that solution oh one .sln, this is just a solution file, it's a Visual Studio file type, and that's what Visual Studio uses to open and close that entire solution. So let's go back to Visual Studio .NET, go to the file menu and click close solution. So that solution is closed now, I'm going to get rid of that solution and the next time around, we're going to create a project and while we're creating the project it will create the solution, and next we will make a project.
