Hi my name is Dave Mercer, I'm one of the authors for the Virtual Training Company and I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself. and some of the tutorials that I have created for VTC. First though let me show you my website Servata Online Applications. As you can see from the description here, we design and manage websites, databases, online applications web services, we do a little hosting, a little bit of design, we have some very good graphics folks, I myself specialize in database design and especially databases that are connected to websites. I started my company in 1993 doing database design over the program called Paradox for Windows. It really didn't take me very long though to switch over to Microsoft Access 97 and I've used Access in one form or another ever since, however I am very familiar with Postress on the Linux platform and Microsoft SQL server on some of their advanced server operating systems. Database consulting with Microsoft Access accounts for a big part of my business. Although we do quite a bit of programming using ASP and also PHP and speaking of website related programming, I got my first Internet access account back in 94 and built my first website in 95, of course the websites back then were pretty crude. But the web's come a long ways. These days you can make websites behave just like ordinary desktop applications and that's where PHP and ASP come in along with databases like Postress and SQL server. So all the work that we do and all of the experience we have really blends together very well to provide good value for our clients on the educational side. I started teaching classes about website and database design in 1995 and since that time, I've taught quite a number of classes related to computers, websites, databases, programming and so on. I also started writing for the popular computer book market in 1996. And I've written books about Access 97, Access 2000, Active Server Pages 3.0, Active Server Pages .NET, XML and HTML. For the virtual training company, I tried to put my best into each one of these tutorials, I explain it as well as I can and I show you step by step, screen by screen, mouse click by mouse click exactly what to do and why.
