Before we leave the topic of upgrading I just want to kind of give you some pointers in the direction of where Microsoft is going to take with this. They do offer an upgrade wizard that you can kick off. And this thing is going to upgrade what it can, and what it can is the operative word there. Now one thing that this thing does is really cool, is it goes through your code and it marks it with comments. So I'm going to show you those comments. Now, you'll see comments in there that says - upgrade_issue. And that simply means that whatever is going on in there is going to prevent this code from compiling. We also see an upgrade_todo and this means that this code will compile but there will be a runtime error. Then there is this comment called upgrade_warning, and this will compile but it may cause a runtime error, this is something that's going to be an issue with you. And then there is an upgrade_note, it will compile and run but it may create side effects, unwanted side effects. So these you want to watch as well. Now keep in mind these things will show up in the task list, and they will also show up in your code. And it's really I guess about as good as it can be. All comments include a hyperlink to associated help topics, so again Microsoft is trying to point you to the best location to get you some help, you'll see ambiguous items. It will find them simple because .NET can't do some of the things that VB6 got away with, just because of architecture issues. And then you'll see some things that just simply cannot upgrade. And the wizard will show you those things. Now it does create you an upgrade report, so you have a complete report, that shows you where you are, where you need to go and then, this is kind of neat, when you run the upgrade wizard it will not destroy your old application. Your old application is not written over, it is simply used to be read from. It creates a new upgraded application that you can attempt to run and tweak it and work on it and then go back and try to run it again and so forth. And so you have a totally new application that's in the process of being upgraded. And good luck to you on your upgrading projects and keep your eyes open, keep in touch with Microsoft's web site keep in touch with the third party market out there, some of the development magazines about different tools that are no doubt going to be on the market real soon to help with this whole issue of upgrading to .NET from Visual Basic6.
