Microsoft makes available an almost staggering amount of free documents, job aides, tutorials and so forth available for their customers and In this movie, I'd like to show you how we can access those downloads as they relate to Visio 2007. Now, to revisit, I know a core principle of adult education is repetition. We'll open the tools menu and come down to trust center to review where we went to specify our online content options. You'll recall that in the trust center dialog box we click privacy options and we make sure that update feature links from Microsoft Office online is available. As long as we've done that, we can then open the help menu, select Microsoft Office Visio help and in the help interface down at very bottom of the home page, we have a link to downloads at Office online. And you notice that we also have a templates option as well. So let me minimize those. I actually have the browser already up and focused on that page. You notice we're at Office.Microsoft.com. We're at the product downloads page and let's take a look and see what we have. The one thing we can do from this page is check for Microsoft updates. Here's a nice handy-dandy hyper-link here. One note; I'm not going to get very far in my web browser. As you see, I'm running Firefox 2.0 as my default browser. Because Firefox doesn't recognize Active X technology, we would need to paste this URL into Internet Explorer or just use Internet Explorer 6 or higher in order to do an online update check. Anyway, if we scroll down in the download page, you see that we can browse by product here and we know that Visio is part of the 2007 Office system, so let's select that tab and then let's select Visio 2007 and see what's available. Looks like Visio 2007 has audio, add-ins and viewers. Hmm. Nice. Why don't we take a look at our add-ins and see what that has to offer us. Looks like right now, as of this recording, the only add-in we have available is the Visio Viewer 2007. We're going to discuss this tool in another lesson. Now then, let's come back to Microsoft Visio and this time, on the standard tool bar, I'll use the Microsoft Visio help button. We'll scroll down to the bottom of the home page and let's click templates. Let's see what's available as far as Visio 2007 product templates. Ok? Here's our page. We're now at the Microsoft Office online section for templates and we have a browse category. Now, this is not particularly helpful for those who are interested in Visio because you notice that you're probably going to get a lot of Microsoft Word or PowerPoint or Microsoft Publisher templates here. So what I normally do myself is use the search function. You notice up here we have a search box for templates and we can type Visio and then let's click search and see what happens. Looks like we have some PowerPoint-based training presentations and sure enough, it looks like we've got some Visio-specific templates. We have one here called Crime Scenes with shapes. Let's give that a click. That's kind of morbid template, isn't it? But the bottom line is as long as you're a registered, legitimate customer of Microsoft and you have a license for Visio, you can come here and simply download templates and plug those right into your Visio application. We'll work specifically with templates in much greater detail a little bit later in this tutorial series. This template's quite interesting, isn't it? It looks like forensic investigators could use this to, use Visio to construct a crime scene. Quite interesting indeed. So I would think that as long as you're familiar with this template search tool and you know how to get to this website, you should be golden as far as downloading lots of interesting templates and add-ins and additional tutorials and features and so forth for your Visio 2007 installation.
