Publisher 2007 Foundation / More with Rulers

Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, let's continue to work a little bit more with those ruler guides and another quick tip on another options for guides. Now, let's go up to arrange ruler guides and let's add a horizontal ruler guide that way. So you don't have to drag it from the rulers like we did before. You can actually use the menu. Then, of course you can drag those around or move them however you want. Now, if we go up to arrange and go down to snap, see how snap-to guides and ruler marks are there? Let's try to snap an object to these guides. Let's go up to insert, picture and we'll get one from file here. Let's grab a logo, drop that in there and you'll notice I can pull it clear out or if I got close to that guide, see how it's pulling it right onto that green line? That's snapping it to there. That means if I've got some items, I can get that straight line and that straight balanced look in my document. So keep that in mind. It's on be default. If you don't need it, of course you can turn it off, but it's a great, easy way to make something work for you. One other quick option I wanted to show you was the guides. If you go to arrange layout guides instead of ruler guides, you can go to the grid guides and add certain guides that way. So you'll see how that divided my page into four equal segments. I've got that option now. I can also go to arrange layout guides. I can change my margins. See how those blue boundaries are moving in and out? That's another thing that you want to be aware of. Make sure you set that up however you want or the default's ok. Obviously that's fine too. And take a look at baseline guides. Scroll up and down. See how much spacing you want, how many points of spacing and how much offset for readability and things like that. Take a look at that, click OK and then you can look at your main document. So this movie's going to help you lay things out and plan them out for your document. If you're more of a visual person and these types of things help you, use those even in your planning stages. So let's move on and continue learning more about Publisher.
