Introducing Publisher 2007 / Publication Possibilities
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, let's take a look at all the publication possibilities within Publisher. There's a vast array of documents that you can create and most of them are already designed and ready for you. You just change the graphics, fill in the text and you've got your file completed in no time. Let's take a look at those items. Let's open up Microsoft Publisher 2007. As we browse through the items, think about what elements you might want to create in-house to market your own business or even just for personalized designs at home. In the Publisher window here, we have our title bar at the top, we have our menu bar and then we have a search box where we can search for templates. The area that I want to point you to right now are the popular items. These are the thumbnails for the things that people create most often with Publisher. Take a look at those. Could you use an email marketing tool? Maybe for a family newsletter? Or maybe for selling this for your business? Do you need to create fliers, so on and so forth? So many options within Publisher. The other areas you want to look at are over at the left. In our task pane at the left, there's tons and tons of items to pick from. Take a look at those on your computer and think about things that you might want to make. There may be things in there that you haven't thought of that could help market businesses or it could help market only specific items or just make something fun for your family or your kids at school. If you have a specific idea in mind, you can just click up in the search box and then type. I'm going to type in coupons, if I want to send that out to my different customers and now it's searching. It's searching my local computer, it's searching Office online and showing me some different options that I can look at. I can take these, I could adjust the text, adjust the picture and I've got it. I can print them off or send them to the printer. Another thing you can do is simply go out to the Internet, go to Office.Microsoft.com and take a minute to look at those templates. Click on the templates tab, click in the search box and I'm going to type in newsletter. You can hit this down arrow right here to search more specific areas if you want to. I'm going to click the search button and right here I will get all kinds of items to choose from. You'll notice some of these are Microsoft Word documents because they have the W right there. The other ones like this one is a Microsoft Publisher document. You'll notice it has all the graphics available, the text, the pictures. You just adjust. They even have ratings on them. If you click on one of those, it will open it up into a larger view so you can see what it looks like. Then if you decide that's one that you want, you can simply click download. I'll click the download link. It's going to check my computer so I can have that template. You may have to install this item here. And then once it's installed. I can click continue and here we go. Lots of hoops to jump through the first time around that you use templates. And here it starts to download. From this point forward when you use templates, you won't have to jump through so many hoops because you will have installed on your machine the information so it can go ahead and download them much more quickly. So here's the newsletter I have. I can go to page two and there's the other side of it. So it's very easy. The nice thing about the templates is they automatically download and open it up in your program. You don't have to run all over your computer trying to guess where it went. So take some time and go out there and look at the templates, those thumbnails and those premade things in Publisher so that way you can save yourself some time and not have to build some of your documents from scratch, plus it's a great way to get some creative ideas. If for some reason you're not finding what you need, go out to Google on the Internet and just do a search for the items that you're thinking about. That'll help give you some more ideas on how to build them in Publisher.
