Introducing Publisher 2007 / Getting Publisher 2007 on Your PC

Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, let's take a look at getting Publisher 2007 on your PC. Publisher 2007 is an application within the Office 2007 suite. It's available for purchase as a single application or as part of an entire package deal. Let's go out to Microsoft Office online. The link to that is just Office.Microsoft.com. You go to the products tab and that will take you to all the possibilities to purchase from Microsoft. We want to look at Publisher and then I will scroll down and click on the buy now link. Right here is where we can look at you can buy it by itself or you can buy it as an upgrade. So you'll need to know what previous version you have of publisher to make sure that you can use that upgrade option if that's what you're looking for. You also will want to scroll down and look at all the Office suites. See if there's a package deal so you can work with some of their other products that might also help with your publications. Take a look at those. Another thing you're going to want to look at while you're out here on Office online are system requirements. I'm going to scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on see system requirements. You can just do a quick search and find this information also. If for some reason you can't see the link that's there, I'm going to scroll down, find Publisher 2007 and here are requirements. Basic processor speed, hard drive space, so on and so forth. One thing you might want to do is increase your RAM. I would recommend that to go to at least 512, especially if we're going to work with graphics and do a lot of design. After you've taken a look at the system requirements and you're read to install publisher, you want to remember to close all your programs when you're installing and you want to watch the customization options. I always select run all the elements and tools on my PC when I install programs, especially Publisher. There are a lot of extra tools and add-ins and converters that if you go ahead and install them on Publisher, then you don't have to put them on there later on. Finding the CD, getting it in there, sometimes that can be a hassle. So if you can, go ahead and install everything. If you have the hard drive space, go ahead and add it in there. Now, if you're looking at all this information and you don't even know what version of Publisher you have, that's easy to find. Open up Publisher, click on help and then click about. All programs have this. It will tell you the version that you're on and then any service packs or updates that you also have. Easy way to check to see if you can just do an upgrade or if you're going to purchase the package by itself. I'm going to close out of that. You can also go to Office online and look at version comparison charts. If you have a previous version of Publisher, you can compare it to the newest version to see if you need those new updates on your PC. If you want to look at updating your specific program, you can go to help and check for updates. Any service packs that might be for Publisher 2007, any fixes, do check for those every once in a while and make sure that you have the latest on your PC. That will help you work better with the program and work with possibly new files types maybe that become available on the web. If you have problems with Publisher 2007, you can click on the help menu and then go down to Office diagnostics. What this will do is run through your Publisher program and help you repair any issues that may have happened during installation or maybe just during regular use of your program. If you click continue, you'll see all these items that it can run through. You simply run the program by clicking the button and then you'll have your information and recommendations from the program. A great quick, easy fix. The other thing you can do is go out to the Office.Microsoft.com and you can check their support area. I'm gong to go to the product section again where we were at before and show you on the left-hand side throughout all those pages, there's a support area. If I go to product support, I can select Publisher 2007 specifically and I can type in, if I had an installation error during Publisher, and click search or hit my enter key, it will go out there and you can see I've got a lot of articles that I can click on and read for probably common problems during installation that other people may have had. So take advantage of those items. Most of the time your installation's going to go really smooth in the use of the product, but take a look at those support options if you ever need any help.
