Working with Resources / Setting up Costs

Subtitles of the Movie

The third kind of resource type that we can assign, allocate to tasks that get done are cost resources and a cost resource is something that we certainly as project managers need to be aware of because it will affect the overall budget for a particular task or bigger picture, the overall budget of the project. But the assignment and even the cost per use can sometimes vary. Let me give you an example of what that might look like. If we have, if we go back over to our Gant chart for example, we have a task like scout locations, well scout locations is probably going to involve some kind of a travel, maybe even shooting the thing will involve some kind of a travel for an actor or two. So if I go back to my resource sheet I might want to have cost like airfare and what will the cost be of that airfare. Well once again it's not work, it is a cost resource which we would change in the type column here and once we do that if I tab back over, notice that the max unit disappears because that is not relevant. In fact nothing that we define here, can we put in a standard rate? No because there really is no standard rate for airfare, it will depend on a lot of things. When the airfare is bought, how many people are traveling and where their flying from and to. So all those things, not even a cost per use, if I try to enter in some information here which I'm trying, of course you can't see that, but trying to type in some information you can try it on your computer, you won't be able to. It's a cost and we can assign that on varying tasks as we need to. So once again we'll assign a cost resource like airfare, then we can assign that cost resource to a task and we can specify the cost per task. So its going to vary once again but at the end of the project we'll be able to see how much that we spent on airfare for getting this task done. We also might have something like per diem if travel is involved. Now once again that's going to be a cost resource but we'll assign it at varying leveling and varying degrees depending on the tasks.
