Working with Resources / Setting up Material

Subtitles of the Movie

Alright what other kinds of resources go into our project that we set up? Well one of them is material resources and usually when we're talking about a material resource what we're simply talking about is a consumable. In other words something that gets used up as the project nears its completion. So in the case of a movie project we're talking about most typically film stock. Once it's exposed its used up, we're going to have to get more of it in order to make that project or to get it completed, we need to keep using this consumable item and that can be a lot of different things of course. Also when we're dealing with tracking a consumable, tracking a material resource the reason why we would want to do that of course is to track the cost associated with using one of those items. So in this example here if we're dealing with a red camera by the way, doesn't use film stock, doesn't even use tape stock, it uses hard drives, let's call that just for the sake of argument here, let's just call it camera drives as a resource. What is significant here as we're setting up a material resource and again this is different then equipment, they won't do work, equipment does work, material is a material type of allocation for the project. So once we specify in this drop down here that this item, this resource is going to do material, contribute material to the project. Once I tab over look what happens to the max units, the max units goes away and I can't set that because I won't be able to allocate a certain percentage of it toward the completion of the project. All I'll be able to define here really is the standard rates. So let's just say each of the hard drives is 250 and if I press enter here it assigns a resource rate of 250.00 dollars per each. Notice again that the standard rate isn't per day, isn't per hour, so material is doing work if a resource is doing work like equipment it's this much per day. If it's material it's just this much per each, so keep that in mind as you're setting up your material that will help you get your task done.
