Working with Resources / Setting up Equipment
Subtitles of the Movie
Alright we started our work now with the resources that will be assigned to the project, now in this module we will set up equipment resources. So we set up again human resources but of course there are equipment resources as well. Both your people resources and your equipment resources by the way will contribute work to the completion of tasks in your project. So that's what we're going to be dealing with here. We'll talk about the material in fact in a later module in this chapter. So once again let's choose the resource sheet if your not there you can give this a right click by the way in this little title bar of the current view and so if your in your Gant chart, there is yet another way to quickly switch over to the resource sheet and let's enter in a couple things, red camera has just been released from Oakley and let's also enter in wireless level ear mics. So these are two of the resources we'll need in order to get our film shot on this movie project. Now the way that we work with these resources is exactly the same way we deal with the human resources or the people resources that we assigned in our project here. So they'll have an initial if we tab they will have a max units as well. So if there's only one camera available then their max units will be 100 percent, if there are two wireless mics available then your availability for that particular resource would be 200 and of course if you're dealing with the units field here it'll automatically add the percentage. Now even though it is very easy to set up your equipment resources as we've seen here. The question becomes, a relevant question is why? Why would you bother doing this? Because you don't necessarily need to track every piece of equipment that's used for a project but some of them it is important and the reason why that is, is because a lot of things that you rent will cost associated with them. So you typically want to enter just as a general rule of thumb, you enter in a equipment resource. If you have a piece of equipment that you want to track the cost for, so maybe the standard rate is going to be 500 dollars per day and what you should remember here is your entering the rate is that if I enter 500 and then press enter or the arrow keys it takes the default which is per hour. So if you want to rent something out and it costs you 500 dollars a day you need make sure you either adjust here per day or you just type it as you're going along. So if your wireless level ear mics are going to cost 80 dollars per day make sure you do the slash and then D to adjust the rate to 80 dollars a day versus 500 dollars a day for the camera as we can see. We can adjust all this information by the way by double clicking just as you saw with the tasks. There's a project menu where we can open up and pull up the resource information dialog box like this and enter in that same information. We could also double click and there's our resource, the red camera, there's the units which you can adjust here, those are the costs which we can adjust here so we can do it within the resource sheet itself or we can double click or right click and access the resource information dialog box and edit all that information as well. We can also enter in a new equipment resource or human resource by double clicking on a blank cell like this to bring up the resource information dialog box, we type in all the information, we click on OK and we've got the same thing, we've got a resource that's available to accomplish a task.
