Setting Up Project 2007 / Save a Project

Subtitles of the Movie

Alright as we start things out now, once again I want to save a project, so I've just started to sketch out the beginnings of a project, you saw how to save earlier in a previous module but I just want to go over some of the other options you have as you go to the file menu and click save as. You'll notice here that in your save is tied, not only can you save something as a project file, an MMP file, I didn't notice that it doesn't change based on whether you're saving it as a 2003 or a just a project and that is unlike the behavior you'll see in other Office 2007 suite. So you do have to be aware of that or more aware of that, but compatibility wise if you save something as a dot MMP you should be able to open it in a Project 2000 or a Project 2003 application. You can also save it as a template to come back and use later on, you can even do this, you can save something as a an excel workbook and we'll look at some other options that you have later on. In fact we'll take something that you create in an excel workbook and use it to import those items that you have in an excel workbook into Project, you can do that, you can use the tab delimited files to get information in project into Outlook if you want to create a to do list. But for now look at what happens if we save something in an excel workbook and then click on save. I'll just keep the file name the same, VTCcommercial.xls which is the file extension for an excel spreadsheet. What you'll see is an export wizard and once again we will come back and deal with this a little bit later on through out other modules in the tutorial, I just want you to be aware of the inner operability options that you have with project. That when you save something you don't have to necessarily save it as a project file, you can save something in project as an excel spreadsheet so then you'll have some options about to use an excel template or project excel template or a select a data is you use the template. All it is, is one step to finish and then you can go back later on, you could, there it is, VTC commercial dot XLS. Let's open it up and see what we've got and again what you can see is that expand these, you see all the information that you just entered, the task ID, the name of the task, the duration, the start and finish and so on.
