Getting Familiar with PowerPoint 2007 / Working with XML Formats
Subtitles of the Movie
Let's take minute to talk about another new feature in PowerPoint 2007 and that's the ability to work with xml formats. If you noticed at the top of my title bar, we have a new file extension. In previous versions of PowerPoint, you've seen .ppt. Now we have .pptx and, as you may have guessed, the x stands for xml. Well, what is xml? Xml is short for extensible markup language. It's a computer language that's designed to describe data and I'm not going to go into any more detail than that in this tutorial. If I do, you're going to fall asleep on me and wake up very, very, very confused. So suffice it to say that xml is becoming more prevalent in today's computing world and we should just be happy to know that PowerPoint 2007 works well with xml. Now, rather than have me read this to you, Microsoft is going to tell you all about xml, more than you want to know, and its use in the Microsoft Office suite. If you're interested in learning more about that, go ahead and click the help menu and type in xml in the search box, hit enter and the then Microsoft is going to give you presentations and all kinds of information on xml. Now, again, all we need to know, for this tutorial, is that xml runs behind the scenes in PowerPoint 2007 and is something that makes your life easier, whether you need to be aware of it or not.
