Getting Familiar with PowerPoint 2007 / Utilizing Slide Libraries

Another new feature in PowerPoint 2007 is the slide library. Now, just as the name implies, a slide library is a collection or archive of your favorite slides. These slides or even an entire presentation can be shared with others in your organization. Well, unfortunately, once again for this tutorial, the slide library requires the use of a server for where we can have our slides stored. Now, I'm not running in a server environment here. I'm just running out of my home office and if you work for a large company, good chances are you're connected to a network and there is a server that you can have this set up or a slide library set up where you can work off common slides. Now, the cool thing about the slide library is that we can associate a slide in a presentation like, let's say just our, our main slide here, and this slide is, the original is archived out on the server. So every time I open this particular presentation, PowerPoint's going to notify me if the original slide, let's say I'm not the one who created it, Bob in accounting did, it's going to let me know if that slide has been modified and it's going to give me the chance to use the current version that I have, the updated version that maybe Bob did yesterday or probably mix the two together. Again, you're going to need to have a server environment set up to utilize the slide library. You will also need to have a document workspace site in order to share your slides with others. For more information on how to do this, I would suggest you check with your IT professional or your server administrator at the workplace.
