Creating a Photo Album, Part 2. In part one of this tutorial, we took a look at actually assembling all of the photos in your photo album and touching them up as needed. So now that you have all the pictures ready to go, what you need to do next is choose an album layout, and you have a couple of different options here under picture layout. You can fit the entire photo to slide and what this is going to do is put one photo per slide, or you can choose some different options. For example, two pictures, you see the design that appears right here that shows how it is going to look. You can use four pictures, you can use one picture with a title, or two pictures with a title. So you see the different formatting options that are available to you and I am going to click two pictures, just as an example. Then you have the option to change the frame shape, but before doing that, look back here under picture options. Once I have changed this from fit to slide to anything else, I have the option to include a caption. If I want to click that, then every photo is going to have a little caption dialog box where I can actually type a caption for the photo. That is entirely up to you if you want to use that feature or not. Frame shape: we have everything from rectangle to rounded oval, beveled, oval, and then a couple of different corner, square, and plaque tabs. So again, these are just a way to make your slides look a little nicer, change them up, and just choose an option that you want. I am going to choose the rounded rectangle, I like the way that one looks. You can choose to use a design template or you can put these on a white, you know, basic plane template. If you are going to be printing the photo album out, it's a good idea not to use a design template, but if you are designing an on-screen slide show, you will now want to click browse, this is going to take you to your templates folder. You will see any that you created but double-click presentation designs and here you have all the different templates that you can choose from. Now it's really important when you are thinking about including a template, that you carefully consider the colors in your actual photos. Be careful that you don't want the background template and design to be competing with the picture. So generally you are going to want to keep it really simple, think about your colors as you work from there. I am going to try this textured one, just as example. Click select and now you will see that I have selected the design template, I have my photos, I have chosen the album layout, and what I am ready to do now is create the actual slide show. I am just going to click create and photo album is then going to assemble this based on my preferences. You will notice that, by default, it puts a title slide and this is where you can type whatever name you want for the title, and you don't have to use this at all. If you don't want to use this particular slide, just right-click it, and then click cut, and that will move it completely. What you want to look at here is that each slide is set up based on my design and what I actually choose to do. Now one thing I am going to notice right away is that this background is nice, but since I have a lot of blues in my actual photos, I am afraid it may compete against them. What I want to do first is come back and look at it and I can see if I actually like how it looks. The good news is if I don't like it, all I have to do is go to the task pane, choose slide design, and go through and select a different template. So you can change it any way that you want to at any time. I also have the caption option. What I have here is the name of the photo, and I can click to change these and we will probably want to if you've included captions, if not you won't see these here. Even though your album is created, keep in mind that all you really have are pictures on slides. You can select a picture, rotate it, resize it, use the picture toolbar to crop and make any changes that you want. You can also simply reorganize it; just grab the picture, drag it around as you like, and you can see I have moved the organization around. So it is important to keep in mind that this little picture album feature just helps you put your slide show together quickly and easily. But you can always go back and edit it in anyway that you want to. Now once you are done, it is a good idea to take a look at your slide show and you can see how everything looks. As you can imagine, this is a great way to show different pictures, a great way to put together a print document so you can actually print these out, and only takes you a few minutes to actually do so. That is how you use the photo album in PowerPoint.
