PowerPoint Basics / Getting Started

Subtitles of the Movie

Alright let's begin by opening Powerpoint. You might have a shortcut on your desktop, although I am just going to go through the start menu. When you open Powerpoint, Powerpoint is going to give you several options in order to create a new presentation. The first is auto content wizard. The auto content wizard helps you with the content of your presentation. For example, let's say you had to do a presentation on marketing, or selling a product, or something to that effect. Then Powerpoint will help you setup a certain structure to your slides that goes along with the content that you're putting into those slides. The second is design template. Design template - well Powerpoint creates certain designs for your background and you can use one of those designs if you like. For example in the presentation we previously looked at there were sun's down the side and the background color was like a yellow - that's a design template, and they help you keep your presentation consistent. The third option is blank presentation - that's well just what it says, you are creating everything from scratch. And of course you can open an existing presentation. Notice my Powerpoint-2000 presentation is here. I can open it from here and if I am not sure that that's the presentation I want, I can simply click on open an existing presentation, click OK - it takes me into this window. Now the reason I want to show you this is that if you are not sure what presentation it is that you want, if you select it here, you see a preview of it to the right. I can click open, it opens that presentation and I can then work on it. In the next exercise I am going go through all of the tool bars, the entire window, all of these different frames and explain what everything is.
