To pass along another cool little tip here that you can use in an Excel spreadsheet and that is you can use Excel to help you set goals whether they be financial goals or sales goals or achievement goals, performance goals and so on and on. Let's say for example that Austin wants to raise his batting average and become one of the top five hitters on the team. What does he have to do? He has to get his average above let's say 330, 340. So to do that let's do this, let's just select a batting average and then in the tools menu here choose Goal Seek and from goal seek now you first set your cell. So let's set cell and let's pretend that this value is going to be .340. So we're going to set this by changing what? Are we going to change the number of at bats, the number of hits? Let's just say the number hits, so this is what we're going to change. We're going to change cell, bingo, D9 and go back, expand this cell selector once again. So now in the goal seek we're setting F9 to 340 by changing cell D9. What does that D9 have to look like? What number do we have to get to in hits in order to get to a 340 batting average? Let's just click OK and find out. We have to get six and a half hits which of course we can't do but we need to get seven hits at 19 at bats to get to a goal of 340. So if it were just that easy in baseball then I guess we would all hit 340, of course it's not. But you can see the idea of the Goal Seek, the Goal Seek says in order to hit this number what has to take precedence, what has to happen over here for me to reach this goal. It's a very handy feature in Excel 08.
