Office 2008 Significant Features / My Day
Subtitles of the Movie
Here's another brand new feature of Office 2008 that is very unique and it's not PowerPoint, it's not SmartArt, it's coming, wait for it, wait for it, it's that. It's called My Day and right now it's the active application because I just hit control M on my keyboard. And when you install Office 2008, My Day will also install and it's kind of a special thing. If you look here, the little button on the bottom that's not really a button, or the little sign on the bottom, the icon is an E and of course, that matches up with Entourage. And what it does is it takes Entourage information and it displays it in this little console called My Day and you can govern My Day by clicking on the Preferences button here or by going My Day Preferences and you can decide how this thing behaves. So whether or not you use it as a part of your day is entirely up to you. This again is something similar to SmartArt. Don't think I mentioned this in the previous module, but SmartArt was kind of an innovation with Office 2007 that was brought forward to Office 2008, ported to the Macintosh side of things. My Day is kind of like the to do bar on the far right-hand side of Outlook if we're dealing with the PC world. In the Entourage, Macintosh side of things, it's kind of a free-standing, free-floating thing that shows you your upcoming events and any kind of tasks that you have that are due. In fact, they don't necessarily have to have a due date for them to appear on this list. So again, it will show by default. You can toggle it on and off with control M. Or not on and off, but to the foreground and then to the background and then you can manage all of the options or the Preferences that go along with My Day right here in this window. So which events show and how is our to do list managed, some of the things that are due today or starting today, then your general options right here, whether it shows in the Mac OS menu bar or it shows in the doc and whether or not it opens at all after a computer logon. So if you uncheck that button right there, then My Day won't start and you'll have to launch it manually. So keep that in mind. It looks like it's Entourage and it's not technically Entourage, but it certainly pulls its information from Entourage and you do have the ability here to add new Tasks, but if you add a new task in Entourage, as we'll see coming up, it will also be reflected here as well. Again, control M, wait for it, makes it fade into the background.
