Subtitles of the Movie

One of the new features in Office 2008 that I really think you'll appreciate is called SmartArt and this one of the elements available in the elements gallery here that you can access from any of the three applications, but especially I think you'll use it when you're dealing with PowerPoint because it's a great way to turn your words in a slide into pictures because after all, a PowerPoint exists, in theory anyway, not as a written document, but as a spoken document. So to compliment what you're saying, sometimes the best thing is pictures. A picture is worth a thousand words and this helps that become reality. So to access your SmartArt, all you have to do is click on the SmartArt graphics heading in the elements gallery and now you have a lot of SmartArt to pick from. So at this resolution, I have 17 pages here to scroll through, so I like to use these filters here to help me filter to a cycle, a hierarchy or a relationship and all of these items can help define what you see; processes, cycles, hierarchies, relationships and so on. They take normal bullet text like this and convert it. All you have to do to get started with it this. You make a selection of text or the entire item as you can see here. This is a text box with some bullet point text in it. Now to make this a little bit easier, I'm going to get rid of one of these levels of bullet points and just go with that and now I'm going to make a selection and let's do, let's just see what happens if I turn this into a cycle. And that's what it might look like. Now, if you change your mind, all you have to do is click something else and you get a different SmartArt diagram that looks like that. So it's very flexible to use and you can just change your mind and keep looking through your SmartArt graphics gallery and decide on different kinds of SmartArt and that's the whole idea. Experiment around, find what is going to best help you. I think that was a pretty good one; best help you make your point. For example, in this slide here, we were going to do the email first and everything else second, then there was a separation between the two. I separated out the Entourage chapters and of course the best way to indicate this was with these SmartArt graphics. So it's a great feature and you can use this, once again, in any of your applications. For example, in Word, you can set an insertion point or select an existing text box and do the same thing. And notice you can insert SmartArt in your document before or after you already have the text. So in this case, you have a text pane that looks like this, which you can move to best suit your needs, and then let's just say step one and then you can press Enter or delete and just go down your list and continue to fill everything in. So step one, step two and here I'm just using the Arrow keys. Step three and so on. Close this and now you can see a little preview, although again, in our resolution this will be a little hard for you to see, but you can see how we're building this SmartArt as we go. We don't have to have the text already written. We can use this Word document to help us document something, certainly a process or a hierarchy, an organizational chart, something like that. It's a great feature to use. Or especially I think you'll find it useful when you're dealing with PowerPoint. So that's SmartArt. We'll deal with it later on as we get into some of our power user tips and tricks, but it is another significant new feature of Office 2008.
