Creating a new website is very similar to sitting down at your typewriter. That is if you still have one of those old really antiquated pieces of equipment. Picture yourself entering a blank piece of paper into the typewriter. Sometimes brilliant concepts and ideas fully formed spring from your brain and land right onto the page. At other times, you need a little nudge to give those creative juices flowing. FrontPage 2002 provides you with all the tools, direction and flexibility that you need to create web pages. In order to get started creating web pages, it's a good idea to stop for a few moments in this chapter to learn some of the very basic web design techniques. What we will learn in this chapter we'll be able to apply as we go through the course. Our learning objectives for this chapter will be the following: we will start off by looking at planning essentials. In this section, we will explore items that you should consider before you actually build your website. For example, who will be your audience? Are you planning on selling a product or will this website be for personal use only? These are some of the areas that you should consider before building your website. You will need to define a location for your website, which means that you'll have to have an Internet service provider or an Internet presence provider, that will allow you to post your particular website on the Internet. When you are constructing and creating your website, you have various publishing options. There are four main options available to you with the FrontPage program. We will explore each of these options in this chapter. Then we will briefly take a look at HTML, which stands for Hypertext Markup Language. We will review what this particular item means and how it is used in FrontPage. Finally we will conclude with templates: how you are able to use FrontPage templates to built website, the different options that are available to you, and how these templates can really help you along in creating a website. you along in creating a website.
