Introducing Microsoft Expression Web / About Microsoft Expression Web

Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, let's talk a little bit about Microsoft Expression Web. Expression Web is the up-to-date replacement program for FrontPage. It's a program that will allow us to express ourselves in the virtual format. Expression allows us to work efficiently. We can customize layout interfaces and it's easily transitioned to from FrontPage. The Expression Web program works with XP or Vista. Expression Web is a WYSIWYG authoring tool. WYSIWYG means it's what you see is what you get. It can be used by professional web designers or brand-new, non-technical users to create a website. The program is an invaluable resource for website design and development. Expression Web has some great features. It has convenient task panes and menus that allow us to build compelling web pages without even knowing code. You don't have to know HTML. You have three view options in Expression Web. You have Design View, where all you see is the actual layout; what you're going to see out on the website. It has a Code View, where you can just look at the HTML code or anything else you need to see. And it also has Split View, which you can see both the design and the code and work with both simultaneously. Expression Web has tools to make sure that our website conforms to the latest web standards to make sure that it works well in a variety of browsers. It allows us to create CSS, which is Cascading Style Sheets. We can make those types of sites whether we have a CSS background or not. It also supports ASP.net 2.0. We can transform our sites into dynamic interactive web applications. ASP means it's an active server page. Basically ASP is you have a surrounding element and then inside of that you have these dynamic pages constantly opening. Expression Web is available in several languages. It has the option for a trial download, so take advantage of that. You can try it for 30 days to see if you like it and see if it'll work for you. Expression Web has accessibility support so we can run reports to make sure that we've added alternate text for images. It also comes with several resources to assist us. If we run into a problem, we can't make something work, there's a lot of options to make those things happen. And Expression Web has a lot of reports that we can run to make sure that everything is ready to go. We can make sure the hyperlinks are working. We can make sure that everything is standard spaced. What's nice is we can run those reports once a month just to make sure everything is still working and everything is still linked properly. So take a minute to go online, read about Expression Web and see all the great things that we're going to learn within this tutorial.
