As you work in Excel you might come across a time when you need to rename or delete an existing workbook. There are two methods for renaming and deleting an existing workbook. You can go through the operating system in Windows Explorer to delete or rename the file, or you can work within Excel and either the Save As or the Open Dialog boxes to rename and delete a file. I will demonstrate how to do this through Microsoft Excel. You should have open Example 1 from the previous movie, but if you do not, let's open that up by coming up here to the Office button selecting that, choosing Open, navigating to where your course files exist for Excel 2007, go ahead and select that and say Open and this will open up a sample document that we will work with. Now we can go ahead and rename this document by doing a Save As command, so we'll come up here to the Office button and choose Save As and let's go ahead and save this one as Example 2 and say Save. So we've just renamed the file, but there are actually two of the same files out there. We have Example 1 and Example 2. So let's go back and let's rename Example 1 to let's say, Example 3. We'll come up here to our Office button and we can either use Open or Save As. It doesn't really matter because we're just going to use the dialog box to make our changes. So we'll say Open and then we'll select Example 1 with a single click, and then right click on it and notice you can rename as well as delete. Choose rename which will highlight Example 1, set your cursor right after Example 1 so that you don't delete the entire file name, delete the 1 by pushing your backspace key, type in 3 and then click away and notice that you have just renamed this file without having to create like the Save As command, a second version of it. If you wanted to delete this file, as you might guess, simply select it with a single click, right-click on it to access your short menu, pull down to Delete, it will pop-up with a Delete File message, Are you sure you want to move this file to the Recycle Bin? Yes we do. Say Yes, and notice that it is gone. Then, since we've renamed as well as deleted our files, we really don't need the open dialog box at this time, so we'll just do a cancel, and you have made those changes to your files; kind of a nifty technique to use the Excel Open or Save As dialog boxes to navigate to rename and delete a file.
