The Basics / Drag and Drop

Subtitles of the Movie

The contents of cells can be moved around a spreadsheet using a method called drag and drop. Any time a cell is selected and you move your pointer around that cell, you'll see it change from a white cross to a pointer arrow along the edge. This pointer arrow can actually pick up the contents of a cell and move it to another place. As I point to the word electric and click and hold down on my mouse button and move my pointer, you'll see that the cell selector moves with me, and shows me the name of the cell I'm in. When I release my mouse button, the contents of the original cell is deleted from that cell and moved to the new location. As I do this for the amount for January's electric, watch again as I point with the pointer not the white cross, click and hold and drag the contents to the new location. You can use drag and drop with more than one cell. I'll do this to move the rest of my electric values to the bottom. Simply select more than one cell at a time, by clicking and dragging over the range of cells you wish to move. Then move to the bottom or top or side edges of that box. Any place you get the pointer will actually execute the move. Then click and hold, and drag them to the new location and release them one you have arrived there. This is an alternative method to using the cut and paste commands from the edit menu or the toolbar. ut and paste commands from the edit menu or the toolbar.
