Before we begin using Microsoft Excel, its important to become familiar with the interface. That is, the parts of the screen and what each of them are used for. To begin, we'll start by opening the application itself. Point to and click on the start button on your task bar, them move up to the programs submenu, moving your pointer straight across onto the Microsoft Excel icon. Clicking this will actually load the application. Across the top of the screen you will see the title bar. The title bar contains the name of the application Microsoft Excel and the name of the workbook currently open. Excel names the book, Book1 before you have saved it with a name yourself. In the far right corner of this bar there are three control buttons for the window. The "x" will close the application; the little button called restore will shrink down the window so that you can see your desktop behind it. Clicking this button again will restore the window or maximize it so that it takes up the entire screen again. The third button called minimize will shrink the application down to the task bar at the bottom of your screen. Locating the Excel button again and clicking, will restore the application to the full size of the window again. pplication to the full size of the window again.
