You can combine many different types of formatting into a style in Excel. We're going to add another row here for date entered, and apply a special style for dates in this row. First of all I'll select all the cells I want it to apply it to. Then go to the format menu to style. There is a list of built in styles when you click the down pointing triangle next to normal. None of these apply to dates. So we're going to add a new style to the list. By clicking the add button we can first give our style a name - we'll call this special. Then check off the boxes for the styles you'd like to apply here. For instance, we'd like to apply a number style, so we'll leave that box selected. Click the modify button to choose what kind of a number style to apply. On the number tab in this format cells box, we'll select a certain date style. You can also choose what kind of alignment, for instance I want the dates to be centred in the column and what kind of font those dates will appear in, for instance bold. You can even apply a border or a background colour to the cell whenever this style is applied. I'll apply a light yellow background to my dates. I'll click ok and then you can deselect the options that you don't want to apply, for instance the border. When I click ok you'll note that the cell that was selected is currently highlighted with a background of yellow. If I type a date in here, notice it comes in bold and centred, the other parts of the style I applied. To apply this style to other cells, I'll select them, then go back to format to style and select this special style. Click ok, and once again the background is changed to yellow indicating that style has been applied. And as I add other dates, all of the formatting that the style includes is also added. And as I add other dates, all of the formatting that the style includes is also added.
