Subtitles of the Movie
We have learned that Slide Masters are a wonderful way to customize a variety of slides at one time; each is going to attach to an appropriate layout. There will be times when you only want to change the layout of one particular slide. Let's say for instance that in the Presentation Layout screen I would like to go in and make a change. Here I have a Title only. Notice that the Title Bar is on the bottom of the screen. My Presentation Layout went there automatically. If I go back to Layout and then choose to go in and return to a Title Slide, you'll notice that Presentation Layout appeared on the top and now I have an area for Subtitle. Each of the layouts will allow us to change a slide accordingly to determine what the background should look like. You will need to be familiar with each of these different styles of the Layout. Another important consideration when working with the elements in different Slide Layouts is how we can adjust things on the screen. For instance, let's say that I would like to change the orientation of the slide itself. For this I'll go to the Design tab, to the Page Setup Ribbon. Occasionally I use overhead projectors. These require to have more of an actual Portrait layout rather than Landscape. Slide Orientation will allow me to make that change very quickly. I can simply go back to Slide Orientation and change it back to my Landscape. Page Setup will allow me to do the same things also. Notice here it defaults to Landscape to the Slides, but for your Notes and Handouts it will automatically default to Portrait, which is much more common for materials that we hand out in booklet form. You'll also notice that I can change the size. The Standard width is for an 8 and a half by 11 sheet of paper. If however, I would like to change it to a larger size paper I can simply go in and you'll notice now I'm on a legal size page. If I go back to Page Setup, go back to my pull-down I can return to the normal Standard size. You will note that the larger sizes are also good for wide-screen presentations. Within the slide itself I also have the ability to manually change the contents on the screen. Notice in this cases that I'm changing the sizing and the shape of the actual Textbox itself. Here is where I can insert other components on the screen. Let's say I have the Bullet points on the screen but I decide that I would like to see a shape in the background. I'm going to go to Shape and I'm going to just choose the Oval and just put it on the screen itself. I like the way that looks, but my text is in the background so I'm going ahead and I'm going to move it to the actual center of the oval. However, notice that my text is not appearing. Here is where I'm going to go back to my original Clipart and I'm going to format the shape. What I'd really like to do is Send it to the Back. Notice that this is one of the items right on the Menu. I'm going to Send to the Back and my text actually appears in the front of the screen. Now, I'd like you to note that there is another way I can do this also. In this particular case my Bullet points were already on the screen so I just wanted to superimpose them on a shape. But perhaps the shape does not exist, nor do the Bullet points on my Slide. I'm going to go ahead and go back Home and I'm going to add a new slide that is blank. This time I'm going to add the shape first. I'm going to choose my shape and just add it to the screen. When my shape is on the screen I can now select the shape and right-click to add the text. Now notice I'm getting mover copy. I'm going to deselect the shapes in those particular components and then right-click again. Remember, occasionally the wrong menu system will pop up. It's going to be up to you to know if you're going to the right place and how to get out of the spot that you're in. In this case always deselect and reselect. Notice when I have the Menu that I have the ability to edit the text right on the screen. This allows me now to go in and simply type in anything that I would like to. I'm going to go ahead and type in Edit Text. At this point I can now go back to my Quick Styles, stylize it any way I want to, and you'll notice that it will even allow me to group with other items, align it the way I would like to, or even rotate it so that it's on an angle. Become familiar with all of these different options that you have within the screen. Notice also, in anything you do there's always a line item that will be for Customize. In the Sizing and Positioning I can manually change the Height, the Position on the screen, or even put in alternative text. It is important to understand these components and the elements within PowerPoint. Remember also, when looking at the elements on the screen I can view them as the normal slide, but I can also go to the Slide Sorter. The Slide Sorter is wonderful for allowing me to quickly change the order on the screen. Notice I can choose a slide and I can simply drag it. The line represents where the slide will go. One of the fastest ways of actually changing the element of the order of the slides is by going to the Slide Sorter. Again, become familiar with the different arrangements of the slides on the screen. Be aware that at any time you can be asked to add a shape, put in some text; you might even be asked to change the text on the screen to add to a shape. Be familiar with both routines.
