Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) Tutorials

Introduction / Using the Work Files

Subtitles of the Movie

I'd like to draw your attention to the Work Files that are included. You will note that there is an actual folder called Work Files. Within you will find application-related files, exam specifications, objectives, references, and keyboard shortcuts. I strongly encourage that you use each of these as you're going through the movies themselves. In the Application-Related Files you will see that there is a copy of the Northwind database and sample Charts for the Excel Section. Also note that when you're working with Access there are some Field Properties. This is a sheet that will explain to you the characters that are used in some of the expressions and the codings. I recommend that you print this out for your reference. Also included are Examination Specifications. This is a detailed listing of all of the exam points that are on each of the individual tests. Now please keep in mind this is a wonderful way to learn the Office products, even if you are not taking the Certification Exams. This will give you a great deal of detail on what tasks should be learned within each of the individual programs. Along with detailed specifications, you will see the Objectives of each Exam. You'll notice that this is just a summary of what you can anticipate being tested on. The idea is to make sure you thoroughly understand each of the categories themselves. You will also see a Folder that is called Command References. The Command References are interactive Tools that are available, free of charge, from Microsoft. If I go into one of the References you will note that it takes me to an Excel 2003 screen. The idea here is if I'd like to insert a chart, I will go to Chart, and go to Chart Type. The screen now immediately changes to Excel 2007 where it shows each of the steps to perform the same task. For those of you who have been familiar with the 2003 environment and are now switching to 2007, I recommend that you use this Tool frequently. It's a great item to place on your Quick Launch Bar so that you can go back into it as you're working with the programs themselves. When you're working through the Work Files you will see that there is a Command Reference for each one of the Office programs. There are Zip Files that are quickly loaded. Each one is a standalone Flash Player presentation that then shows you the commands used in 2003, and their correlation in 2007. Finally, in the Work Files, you'll see Keyboard Shortcuts. Here I have given you a sample of Keyboard Shortcuts for each of the programs in the MCAS Certification. Now, please keep in mind, although this is not an extensive list of every shortcut out there, it is a good solid list of specialized shortcuts for each of the programs. Take advantage of the additional Tools inside.
