Let's begin by talking about some concepts and suggestions for taking the MCAS Certification. First, let's talk about the actual Certification Program itself. Certification is a great way to gain an advantage in the job market. Statistics show that students who complete the Certification Training earn more, approximately 12 percent, than employees who are not Certified. In addition, 82 percent of students who got their Certification reported getting a raise upon completion. Many employers will also pay for the Examination. Of course, this is usually tied into passing the Examination. The Examinations themselves are developed to really be based on how the programs are used in the workplace. As a result, you'll need to know that you will have to demonstrate how your computer and the programs are used. Concepts are essential. It is the application of the features that will be used within the Examination itself. It's also important to understand the integration of the programs. For example, if you're in Microsoft Word and a document doesn't print you'll need to know that the answer may not be in Microsoft Word, but you may have a printer problem in Windows Vista. The idea is understanding how all the programs work together. Now, also keep in mind that along with this Tutorial, that Microsoft has some online resources. First, the 2007 Microsoft Learning Portal. Here you can find both special offers and information on training and certification. Remember, you must take your exams at a Proctored site. The Learning Portal will discuss this in more detail. The Learning Community is another place that you can join news groups and forums for suggestions and advice on the Certification path. Remember, there are multiple exams involved. You'll probably want to focus on one exam at a time. There's also TechNet, designed for IT professionals, but it includes How To instructions, Best Practices, Downloads, and other resources. Finally, there's MSDN. This was designed for developers. It features Coded Samples, Technical Articles, Downloads, and Chats. Remember also that there is ample information that is available over the Internet. Always go to at least three sources on the Internet. Make sure that you can rely on the answer. Always keep in mind there is no policing of the Internet. I also recommend that you review the VTC Tutorials. VTC has put together each of the programs individually, such as Microsoft Windows Vista. It has also bundled the Office 2007 Suite. This Suite consists of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. Consider getting each of these individually or the bundle. The more review, the more prepared you will be for the Examination.
