Whenever working with a PowerPoint presentation, Rehearsals are necessary. We must always have a good feel for or sense of our timing, when to go to the next slide what information we'd like to say while a slide is on the screen. To help us out with this, PowerPoint has a Setup Ribbon under the Slideshow Tab. You will notice in this ribbon that I have the ability to start with setting up the slideshow itself. Here you'll note that I can choose whether it's going to be presented by a speaker or if it's going to be browsed at a kiosk. Notice some of the options. I can look continuously until escape. This is great for startup presentation. Perhaps you have a presentation of pictures that is going while your audience is entering into your presentation area. You'll notice you can choose whether or not to have narration and animation showing and you have a pen color. PowerPoint allows you to actually write notes on the screen as you're going through your presentation. This is where you can set the Pen Color. That's the type of question that you'll need to be prepared for on the examination. If I'm drawing a note, how can I change the Pen Color? The solution is to go to the Setup Show in the Setup Ribbon under the Slideshow Tab. You'll also notice here that if I'm using multiple monitors I can set them up. I can choose from my slides to advance manually and I can even select if I show all my slides or just a portion of them. Each of these areas in blue are key target areas of the examination. You will not be quizzed on all of the, but you never know which one comes up in your examination. So it's important to at least know that each of these areas are defined in Setup Show. Another component of Rehearsals is the ability to Hide a Slide. Very frequently when we make presentation not every slide is applicable. Rather than having to store 10 or 12 different copies of a presentation I can simply hide them in a presentation where appropriate. Recording of your narration is also another feature, along with rehearsing timings. Very often what we have to do with a presentation is to see how long it needs to run as we follow our script. Notice in the upper left-hand corner, this is giving me my rehearsal time. It's an estimation of how long the slide should stay on the screen. Now, I can set this to Advance Automatically after the actual rehearsal time or I can delete this and try again. This time it tells me what the total for the entire slideshow is. I'm going to say no, I don't want to save those settings. I need to rehearse a little bit more. If you do not want to use those rehearse timings, you can turn them off. PowerPoint always allows you to go back to the Manual component to get a feel for the timing on the slide. The last area I'd like to cover in this rehearsal is the pen that I talked about a few moments ago. To use the pen, I must be in the slideshow itself. Here I'm going to right click on the slide and you'll notice that I have Pointer Options. First, notice that a type of pen or at least an option is the ability to see your arrow on the screen. Traditionally your mouse arrow does not appear during the presentation itself, but notice I was able to turn it on. I can also go to the Pointer Options and turn it into a pen itself. Here it allows me to put any kind of annotations on the screen that I would like to. The only difficulty that you'll need to be aware of is that I must right click, go back to the Pointer Options and erase the ink on the screen when I'm complete. Utilizing the arrow and the pen is a very important feature and it's apt to show up on the examination.
