Now as we get ready to dive into Access 2013 let's do a little course overview here and kind of give you a roadmap so that you know what to expect and what you're going to see as we move through here. We're going to start talking off about just some very basic things about Access, exactly what Access is for those of you who are coming to this course and you've not used Access a lot or you might be totally new to it. You're welcome here, we're going to make you feel good. Next we're going to talk about what's new in Access 2013. What about Office 2013 Access in particular, makes it worth awhile or time or money to update to 2013 and begin to work with it? Then I'm going to jump into just some general database basics that you need to understand to really get the right kind of use and functionality that you're expecting out of a product like Access. We're going to talk about different types of databases, organizing a database tables, data types, primary keys, those sorts of things, just to make sure everybody's on the right page and thinking the right kinds of thoughts. Then I'll dive in just a little deeper and we'll talk about tables, data types where we're storing our data, why and that sort of thing. And then I'll cover just a few database design basics. And I'll explain some concepts like normalization, relationships, relationship types, integrity, those sorts of things. And then once we get passed those kinds of preliminaries we'll jump into Access 2013. And we'll talk about what you can do with Access, how to get started, how to install Access. Opening it up for the first time and we'll do a little interface tour of how to move around. You're going to see some new and different things in Access 2013. I think you're really going to like them by the way. And from there we'll jump into a whole section on working with tables. Because tables is where we store our data, they are where our data lives and anytime we work with Access we're going to be manipulating tables in some way. So you want to have a good understanding of those and I'm going to help you get there. From there we'll drill in just a little bit to relationships in Access how to identify them, how to create a relationship, how to go view a relationship on a table, see what's out there. And then of course queries. Once we get our data into our database it's useless if we can't go in there and grab that data and do something with it. And so we will talk about queries in Access, how to get our data, what to do with our data, how to manipulate that data. Next up we'll talk about inserting, updating and deleting. And then we'll talk about data forms and data forms have changed a little bit especially the architecture of what's going on with data forms has changed. And so we'll deal with that a little bit in the course and we'll talk about some things like Form Wizards, the different views on working with forms. Then we'll jump into controls, show you some examples of some various controls. And then we'll talk about external data. There's always data outside that needs to be in here there's always data in here that needs to be out there. And we'll talk about how to deal with that. And then we will kind of close out the course covering some of the coolest, newest aspects of Access. And that is this new relationship. Access is getting very, very friendly with SharePoint and that's a great thing by the way, you're going to like what you see. And it's also getting very friendly with SQL Server, another great thing. Don't let the SQL Server mystique fool you, don't let it scare you or frighten you, you're going to like what you see here. Okay. So we're going to cover quite a bit of information and by the time this is all said and done, you're going to know a lot more about Access and be a lot more comfortable with the cool new features that are available to you in Access 2013. So having said all that let's jump in and get started.
