Introduction / .NET Framework Documentation
Subtitles of the Movie
Now in this video that's entitled .NET Framework Documentation, I want to just kind of give you a clue on how to go dig into the .NET Framework a little more. I don't want to just kind of blow past this and leave it there because I especially don't want to leave the impression that you don't need this stuff. Understand that in this course we're going to kind of do an overview of ASP.NET, we're certainly going to use the .NET 3.5 Framework, but we're not really going to stretch it or really dig into it very deeply and so make sure that I qualify when I say while you don't need to understand all this to do what we're going to do in this video, you are absolutely positively going to need a deeper and deeper understanding of the .NET Framework as you get more and more involved in building these applications and so forth. So what I want to do to that end is show you where you can go start to read about the .NET Framework. Now there are some pretty good books out there in the bookstores, you know, on Amazon, just pick one, read through it a little bit before you buy it, make sure the author's kind of connecting with you, that your learning style fits their teaching style and I would always start here. Go to microsoft.com and just do a search on the .NET Framework 3.5 and you should get to this page. Now I don't know if you can read this URL right here on your video, but if you can, you can just grab that URL and go there, but if you'll notice this .NET Framework documentation form, make sure you're on version 3.5. Notice it shows you the Class Library. I can click on this and then go to the Class Library and I can see, notice it's quite extensive and I'm scrolling through kind of quickly here. You can see it's quite extensive. There's a lot of information there and I will simply go back and there's ASP.NET Portal, this gives you documentation about ASP.NET applications, Web Forms, Web services and anyway, here's an overview of the .NET Framework, core development, technologies and so forth. Anyway, come out here and go through this. Now, there's an even better way to do this and I'm not going to go into it in the video here, but you can actually go out to microsoft.com and just do a search for the .NET Framework 3.5 SDK, Software Development Kit. You can download that and it'll load it on your machine and you will have this documentation locally on your machine and you won't need the Internet to get to it. So, you know, what I like to do with that is print out sections of it, then when I'm caught in traffic or standing in line, or somewhere where I'm waiting on a client to show up in a coffee shop somewhere, I can pull that out and read and I can get all kinds of just cool little information that you pick up just from scanning through this stuff. So, short video, but I just wanted to kind of throw at you some resources on how to get a little more acquainted with the .NET Framework because you're going to need this if you plan on getting more adept at building some really cool things with ASP.NET.
