I am going to create a NURB primitive plane and it's going to come in at the origin; I am going to hide the grid just so we can have the better view of the surface. I am including reverse surface direction after attach/detach because quite often when you are attaching surfaces, you must setup the direction of the surface so that it attaches properly. Now with a plane surface direction it isn't that much of a concern, but if you've a more complicated surface, you'll find in order to get a proper result, when attaching, you need to often reverse the surface direction. So I wanted to talk about what the surface, what this tool does, so I am going to go into component mode. And let's look at the surface - we have the beginning of the surface here. This the first CV in V, and that's the first CV in U. So the U direction is here and the V direction is over here. Alright so I am going to go back into object mode, and I am going to select the surface, and I am going into the edit NURB’s menu. And I am going to reverse surface direction and let's just reverse in U. And I am going to click on reverse now - surface doesn't really change visibly, but let's look at the surface. And you'll see down here, the beginning of the surface is now here and the first CV in U is over here, so what we did is, reverse the surface direction in U which means that it now formerly began here and went from zero to one, or whatever number of spans, in this direction, and now it starts here. This is your zero CV and that is your extreme opposite CV, your one CV. So that is one way of reversing a surface direction to parameterize or re-parameterize a surface in one direction only. Ok, I am going to go back into object mode and select the surface, and go to edit NURB’s. And let's reverse the surface direction in both directions. Let's now look in component mode, you'll see that U which formerly went this way, now goes this way. And in fact V, which formerly went this way, now goes this way. So you can in fact reverse surface direction in both ways simultaneously. Ok, let's go back into object mode and select the surface, and let's edit NURB’s reverse surface direction and let's swap. And now I'll go back into component mode and what you'll see is that it takes the U and V directions and swaps them. So now, this is no longer the V direction, this is now the U direction and this is the V direction. So, you can take any surface and reorient it directionally, and this is very very important when you are attaching multiple surfaces. And what you'll find, is that surfaces attach more successfully when they are parameterized the same, that is to say when their directionality is identical - that is the reverse surface direction tool.
