When using the snapping tools, some times a bug will appear in Maya, which won't allow you to continue to snap. I don't know that I can incite it at will, now my snapping tools are currently working. Sometimes the snapping tools will stop working, and even though you have a snap tool selected, you’ll simply move the object and it will be as though the snap tool was not selected. When this happens, you need to throw away your user preferences. I am going to delete my sphere. Your preferences are found over here, just above the script editor - click on this button, you will open up your preferences. You've got tremendous control in how you can customize Maya through use of your user preferences. It's important to set your undos - it is often wise to set it to infinite. We can set play back at real time, and for your time line when you are animating. There are a variety of preferences that you have control over which will effect very aspects of Maya, as they relate to specific subjects in Maya, we will come to the preferences and set them or point that out. Unfortunately the custom preferences will be lost when you lose the control of your snapping functions and wish to turn them back on again, because you going to have to thrown them away. And then you’ll have to reset all of your custom preferences. So when you run into this bug and the snapping function stops working, you will need to close Maya. In the My Documents folder, I have my Maya folder - open the Maya folder, open the fourth window folder, find the preferences folder, find the user prefs. You are going to need to drag the user preferences to the Recycling bin, and empty the Recycling bin. I am not going to do that right now because my prefs are working fine. However that is what you would need to do in order to resolve the problem with the snapping when is stops working, and then you can restart Maya. At this point you would need to reset all of your custom animation preferences.
