Diving In / Hotkeys pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

Creating your own hot keys seems pretty straightforward, but there are a couple of tricks to know. Let me close this Outliner window and head back to the Window, Settings, Preferences, Hot Key Editor. Okay, I knew in the last example when I wanted to create a hot key for my Outliner window to go to the Category window and then look for the command Outliner window. But given the number of commands and categories in here, sometimes it's not that easy to just search through and find things. So a way to search for that is with this button in the bottom right, Search. In the search field, you can use wildcards such as asterisk, and then I'm going to use the word Outliner and then another asterisk and press Enter. So this found the Outliner window even though the command is Outliner Window, I wouldn't be able to find it if I simply searched for Outliner. So you get a little helpful hint here that says: Try adding an asterisk or two, such as one at the beginning and the end of the word. So in that case, put the asterisks at the beginning and the end of the word, press Enter, and now I can see the command name is Outliner Window and the category is Window. So that's how you'd know where to search in that list. I'll close this Hot Key Editor now and take a look at a few other shortcuts. I'm going to press Spacebar again so I'm looking at all four views. I'm very far away from the side view and very close up on the top view, so I'm going to press the A key, which will show all the objects in the scene, and you can see that zooms nicely. Or if you want to select just one object, you can press F and that will frame that object. This is dependent on where your cursor's hovering, so if I hover the perspective view and press F, top view, F, front view, F, and I've zoomed in on all those objects.
