In this video I'll show you how to use the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 Queue. Now this is the rather minimalist Interface that appears when you launch Media Encoder and I happen to have a whole bunch of files queued up. So the first thing I'll show you is how to clean up that batch by Shift-clicking to select them all, clicking on the Remove button and then I get prompted with a warning that I'm not actually deleting these files from my computer, I'm only removing them from the Media Encoder Queue, which is just fine with me. The first step in working with files in Media Encoder is to add some files to your Queue. The files that are added to the Queue are files that you can work with in Media Encoder. So I'll add one file to my Queue and what if I want to create three different extracts from this file? For example, I might want to convert this QuickTime Movie to a Flash Video, which is what I'm set to do right now, but I might also want to extract an audio track and maybe extract a high-quality still photo. I'm duplicating the file three times so that I can extract three different outputs from the same file. And of course, my original QuickTime Movie file won't be changed at all. And again, I can clean up these files by clicking on the Remove button and being prompted to be aware that I'm not deleting them from my computer, I'm only removing them from the Queue. One final trick and this is handy if you're working with a lot of files, in the File Menu in Media Encoder there's something called Create a Watch Folder. In this case I'm selecting a folder on my computer which I just happen to have navigated to before I started the video, but it's called Video to Convert. You'll see it has quite a few files in it. Some of them are media files that can be converted in Adobe Media Encoder, some are not. I'm going to make this a Watch Folder and then when I click on the file folder Icon in Adobe Media Encoder only those files that are actually exportable video files are added to the Queue. So, I had other files in that folder; they're not showing up in the queue, the convertible files are. And again, you do that by choosing File, Create Watch Folder. So, I've showed you how to navigate and get around in the Adobe Media Encoder Queue. Once you've added files to the Queue you're ready to start editing them.
