The spiral tool in Freehand allows you to draw a plethora of spirals, simply click and drag and you have a spiral. Now what if you don't like the spirals that it gives you? Easy, get rid of those. Go ahead and double click the tool and you get the spiral tool dialogue box. You have a choice between nonexpanding spirals and expanding spirals. Let's start with nonexpanding. You have a choice between draw the spiral by rotation or increments. Let's start by increments. This tells us how many how much space we want to have between spirals. In this case we want a big distance between our spirals. Let's get rid of those, take a look at the next option we have. We can draw by rotations, so we have 4 rotations in this spiral. I'll go ahead and max that out, well maybe not quite. Now we have a whole bunch of rotations in the spiral and you can see some of the effects you can get with that. Go ahead and play with it, have some fun. Now you can also bring this back to a reasonable level and you can also determine where your spiral is drawn from. You have a center, edge and corner. Let's start with the center. Spiral is drawn from the center of where you start. Pick edge, and this time a spiral is drawn from the edge of the spiral. And likewise from the corner, the spiral will be drawn from the corner, notice where the end point is. Now let's go ahead and get this set back, and what you can also do is change the direction of your spiral. We will draw from the center, open a dialogue box and we will just switch the direction, pretty simple. Let's take a look at the other kind of spiral next which is the expanding spiral. Now when you select the expanding spiral we have some different options. You can change the expansion rate as a percentage of the spiral. Let's go ahead and create a small amount of the expansion and we will go ahead and vamp that out to a larger, and you can see what happens. Get rid of those and you can also change the same features as the nonexpanding. You can draw by rotation, increments, change the rotations, change the direction, draw from the center, corner, edge. Go ahead and just have fun with the spirals.
