Tools / Output Area

Subtitles of the Movie

The next tool we are going to take a look at is the output area tool. This tool allows you to define an area of your artwork that you can export to a GIF, bitmap, JPEG, what have you. If I am going to create an eps file, but only want to use a portion of this artwork, so you take your area output tool, drag it around your artwork; now I'm resizing it to fit the sections I'd like. And what I am going to do for purposes of demonstration is actually crop off the top part and the bottom part of this artwork. Then you go up to file menu, export. Make sure you click the area box because you want to export just that area that's been defined, save. Now I am going to go ahead and open up that eps file I just created to show you what it looks like. We should see just that cropped artwork. Hey, it works. Go ahead and now make sure you click on the pointer tool again because if you do what I just did you have created another output area. So I'll go click the output area tool, hit delete, get rid of that, go back to the pointer tool and let's move this up to the top. Now notice since this is an exported set of artwork I cannot edit it. I can resize it but going to the subselect tool I cannot edit points or do much except rotate and resize the artwork. So you essentially use the output area tool to redefine an area that you would like to export.
