Freehand MX also allows us to change our surface options or shading on the object once it's extruded. Simply go over to the Object panel, select the surface options button and we have some choices. We can work with a flat, where we have no shading. We can work with shaded, which works within the contours of the object. We can work in wire frame, which gives us a transparent or a keyline view of the object. We can also work with mesh, which applies polygons. They show us a kind of a basic structure of the object. And we can also work with the hidden mesh, which simply just shows the exterior polygons and the fill. Let's go back and take a look at some of the options we have just working with the shaded. We can control the number of the steps for the shading. The higher the value, the smoother the shading will be. We can also change our ambient, or basically think of this as a light source. We can use this to increase or decrease the amount of light on our object. So think of this as kind of a little light off to the side here. And we can also work with light or ambient light on the surface of our object from two different directional lighting sources. We can work from top, bottom, center, left, right, left top, left bottom, right top, right bottom. I'll select bottom. You can see how that changes. Left, and I'll also change the intensity of that light source. And we can also change where we are going to have our right, second light source. In this case right bottom, center, as well as the intensity. So you can add a lot of surface effects to your extrusions to create the desired effect on your object.
