Now that you have a few instances of a symbol on your document, what happens if you want to go back and actually change the symbol. Well, that is pretty easy to do. Let's say in this case I do not particularly care for the color of green. I do not want to have to go recreate the symbol and put more instances down, I just want to go back and edit the symbol. Here is how you do that. Go up to your Library panel, double click the symbol, not the name. If you double click the name, you are going to have the opportunity to rename your symbol. Double click the icon and this pulls up the Symbol window. Now here you can go ahead and edit and make whatever changes you would like to the document. In this case I have grouped all these objects together, so I'm going to do Control, Shift G, to ungroup them. And I want to change the gradient from green to, Oh, let's pick a nice pink. Notice I have by default Auto Update is selected. All that means is, any change here is automatically reflected as you see on our instances in the document. So I have made that change. I am also going to change the fill on this outer box, and I think I will change that particular stroke to red. And I think that makes it more than funky. To go ahead and apply these changes to the symbol just close the window. And Voila! You have now edited a symbol and every instance reflects those changes that you have just created.
